THE SIMPLEST COACHING TOOL

Take a step back from what you are doing and notice.  What is going on?

That’s the simplest coaching tool:  noticing.

Coaches use the term building awareness. After being coached, the most common thing people cite is that they are more aware.   Practicing awareness is noticing.

In my coaching, noticing is the most common tool I use.  I will ask about what you have noticed, trying to get you to go deeper within yourself.   When trying to learn more about any topic, the common homework is to notice what is going on.

Let’s say you are working on managing stress.  Notice in the moment: what is causing your stress?

If you are afraid– (take that step back in the moment of fear) what are you afraid of? What is going on with the fear?

If something is just not right,  what is not right?

If you want to be better in your Board meetings,  have someone help you notice what is happening — with you and others.

If you are not confident, (in the moment) what causes that?   What are you not confident of?  Then:  what are your choices?
